I think the proper answer is another question:

Do _you_ think it’s immoral? No, no, I’m serious. Oh, I’m not interested in what _I_ think. That’s a boring subject. So tell me. Please. I find your views on morality really fascinating. That’s a gorgeous necklace by the way. Oh…you don’t? Well of course it goes without saying _we_ wouldn’t behave that way, but we don’t want to dictate the behavior of others, now, do we? No, no, it’s healthy, it’s natural, we’ve just _matured_, yes, and don’t want to be bothered with the “scene” any longer. That’s so twenty-something. It _was_ fun while it lasted, though, wasn’t it? What? What’s that smile? Are you blushing? You’re blushing, I can see it! Someone has a story! Oh, c’mon, tell me! I’m dying to hear it! NO! I’ll tell no one, I swear! Would you like another…waiter, two more glasses of Shiraz please! Now where were we…

that’s a good question, In the Biblical context, I’d say no. But I have friends and family who are not belivers in God who I would count on to do the right thing (as I see it) before some self-professed Christians I’ve known.

Great, now I’m going to be bugged by this question all weekend. 🙂

I guess the only real answer is that only God knows for sure.

> Is casual sex always, necessarily immoral? The obvious answer seems to be no: if it’s mutually enjoyable and no one is hurt, what’s the problem? But down through history, many societies, cultures, and religions have considered casual sex to be wrong or immoral, and it would be unwise to dismiss that mass of human opinion without at least trying to understand why they had a problem with it.
> .

My guess would be that it stemmed from the lack of reliable contraception.

If you were looking for something obective or absolute, I don’t think you’ll find it (although you will find plenty of people who _claim_ their favoured moral code is objective and absolute, of course).

Very nice! As the kids say, IAWTC. 🙂

I’m sorry, but I don’t think I understand what you are saying. How would you propose to have any child (zygote/embryo/fetus/what-have-you) consent to be conceived? I’m sure there are a certain number of people who, for whatever reason, genuinely wish they had never been born; unfortunately, however, medical technology has not evolved to the point at which we may inquire of a sperm and egg whether they would like to unite and produce a human being.

Can you clarify your position here? Do you mean to say that two married (or monogamous in a sexual relationship?) people, regardless of their character and how good as parents they might be, are more entitled to have a child than two unmarried people, who might very well be nicer/kinder/better parents? Is this a variant of the no-gay-adoption argument: “every child deserves a mother and a father”? Do you truly believe that all children conceived as a result of casual sex will be “emotionally unsupported”?

> I didn’t misread what you wrote at all. What you are stating is opinion. Why is creating a non consenting non adult immoral? If it results in a child who is loved and wanted, despite the fact that it was not planned, what is immoral about it?

The immoral part come about in the casual creation of a child. We know how children are made, and having sex without considering a supportive enviroment for the child if one were to show up is the immoral part.

Now, like anything else you can have exceptions in ‘godless’ morality. Like if a couple is married and the husband has lost his ‘member’ in a hybrid car accident. They agree that she can had sex causally and if a child is conceived that they will raise him as their own.

Not the the child must consent, but the parents have a moral responsibility to be able to provide a stable emotional enviroment for the child. Casual sex sort of means that this in not the case.

More morally repsonsible IMHO.

Gay sex acts do not result in children, nor do hetro anal/oral sex and I have excluded them from my arugment.

Well one can argue that by definition casual sex does not consider the emotional support of a child.

I don’t understand your point. Could you explain further? I was married for ten years. I can tell you from experience, we were not thinking of the emotional and physical well being of our children when we had sex. Likewise, could you explain what being single or married has to do with acting morally toward an unborn child?

Casual creation or no, the moral part comes about in doing what is right for the three lives affected. I don’t know how to break this to you, but it’s very rare that married people check the woman’s fertility calendar and say “ok, the time is right, let us now create a child.” Yes, it happens, most frequently with couples who have fertility problems, but more often than not, that was probably the night mom and dad got a bit tipsy and ground a hole into the floor. This being GD, I will try to refrain from becoming any more graphic. Most people do not like to admit their parents even _have_ sex, much less enjoy it.

I could but you seem to want me to address the morality of sex in marriage which is another issue. Please clarify what you wish me to address.

Yeah, I hear membership is way down in the ecologically-friendly car market.
