I picked that one because @nelliebly said it made GG look like he was jumping over the moon, hence the “the cow and the fiddle” thing. The last 10 years of my working life (civil service), we were “strongly encouraged” to have a profile pic attached to our intranet accounts. I’m proud to say that when this was announced and we were told to report to our supervisors to have our picture taken, I was the first to refuse\*. A few hours later, there was a new announcement saying that we just needed to have a distinctive pic, so I downloaded a picture of my cat. \*I had many, MANY good and valid reasons for that, but just the above was probably a bit of a hijack. ---

This is Steve. He was the Best Cat in the World and died too young because he came pre-loaded with FIV which caused his immune system to go nuts so he would lick himself bloody. The meds to stop that problem also messed with his immune system and when he shut down, it happened fast and hard. I still miss him, and will probably change pics shortly. I’m getting misty eyed already. ---

I usually don’t even bother trying to figure out what’s in the atavars; most of them I can’t tell unless I click on them to enlarge them, and some of them I can’t tell even if I do. Have been clicking in this thread, and most of those vague blurs do turn out to look like cats, after all. thorny – terrible eyesight probably since birth but good with cats! – locust ---

I love your Hawaiian shirted Vader. If your next supervisor gives you trouble about the pic, I can tell you the legal and discovery reasons I used to force the state to change their new rule to something more reasonable. (I also kept my job with no push-back because I was a local hero.) ---

I’d like to apologize to @wolfpup . He’s a good dog, and was just trying to add some levity to this thread. Like certain other large friendly dogs of my acquaintance, his tail might have wagged with a bit too much vigor, and accidently hurt some of the cats, but they’ve made up, and it was all intended in good will. ---

The main reason is the discovery process. Most government processes can be appealed or sued over. During this process, the legal team bringing the case are entitled to see all the documentation for the case. Even if my only contribution to the process was verifying signatures or something, I am linked to the case and my photograph shouldn’t be displayed for the defendant to view. If you want to start a new thread, I can pull up some laws and legal cases involving this sort of thing, but back to cat avatars. GG, who is now recognizable as a cat is still a youngster and won’t be fully mature for another year. I’m expecting more of a mane despite him being castrated. ---

Mom fell off the breakfast bar but that was hubs’ fault cause he was rubbing her belly and she was trusting him to not let her squirm off the table, but that was after we handed the money over and it was too late. We had our new not-so-smart kitten and life would never be the same again, LOL!!! ---
