Why not use disposable catbox liners? Then you don’t have to deal with The Wrath of Dopers, all of whom seem to be up in arms about the dishwasher use and are ready to tear down your house.

I can’t use litter liners in mine - my cats have claws and then I end up with a filthy litter box with shredded plastic bag pieces in it.

My son’s pet RATS don’t shit where they eat and they live in a (spacious but limited) cage. Why would someone deliberately put Tabby’s shitbox near where they eat?
