Cat finds way home. How?

Dog Makes 500-Mile Journey Home

Ok I’m inclined to never believe these stories either about pets wandering hundreds of miles to find their way back home, but if the dog had a damn microchip and everything… then maybe he really did walk 500 miles to get back home to his master.

Or maybe the guy just lost his dog, told people that he took it to his dad’s house as a cover because he couldn’t admit he lost it, and then someone found it some time later. Seems more likely but I would assume ABC News would probably not run a flimsy story without checking it out and verifying facts.

Interesting.

Apparently, the dog was smart enough to find his way to the town immediately adjacent to the town he used to live in, but NOT smart enough to find his way back to the correct neighborhood, let alone the correct house.

I’m thinking it was mostly random chance.

Remember, we aren’t seeing anything in the news about the 99.9% of lost dogs that DIDN’T make it back home.

My neighbor across the street adopted a dog, Judy, from the local humane association. So it was tagged and chipped. It had been in their house less than two hours and slipped out the door as the neighbor man was stepping out to get the mail (he has mobility issues can’t slip and slam really).

We chased the dog about a mile and a half, but she was totally spooked and would not be caught. Lost her she was headed a way at full sprint.

Neighbor hoped dog catcher would pick her up, but was giving up hope as days went by.

After eight days the neighbors arrived home to find a dirty, hungry, docile Judy waiting on the doorstep. Never ran away again.

That dog had been in through that door once, out once, and spent a total of two hours in the house. Totally blows my mind she found her way back, or even wanted to come back after running away scared.
