Giving your dog cat food regularly is not to be reccomended especially on a long term basis.
According to my local vet cat food tends to be much higher in protein than dog food and ,in the longer run, may cause kidney problems.
I was also told that I should take care when buying dried dog food from outlets that do supplies for working dogs as the protein level is inapproprate for domestic dogs.Even canned food at the supermarket has quite large differances, I fed my dogs on one particular brand and they really loved it,not that they don’t love any other food too, and they were hyperactive all day.
I switched back and all was fine but I tried again a couple of times-always with the same result.
Anectdotally(litigation avoidance strategy here)I know a few people who have fed their dogs long term on a very well known brand which is famous at Crufts. The protein levels are higher than most brands and their dogs were extremely active, maybe even overactive,
certainly moreso than most dogs.
Unfortunately they have ended up with cancers of the liver at about 8 years old and this has killed them.
I don’t have any information about the cause I just know what I saw ,hardly scientific so if you want to shoot me down then go ahead.
