When I recently acquired two kittens, i already had an adult cat. There was a litter box in one of the bathrooms, but I figured that the sides were too high for the kittens so I put some litter in an aluminum baking pan and put it near where the kittens were kept. They learned to use it on their own (thank Og!), but as they got bigger they found the other litter pan and started using it as well as their own. After a while I just took the smaller one away, and had no problems with the fact that it was gone.
Next week I’m moving, and I plan to have two litter boxes at the new house. I don’t anticipate any problem with any of the cats figuring out where they are.
My friend Robin did the training the old fashioned way with just a toilet seat over the litter box, and I think she moved on to use a “smaller” litter bowl attached under the seat.
Some cats (Siamese, for example) seem especially interested in learning to use the toilet. Easy to find several videos on YouTube, but don’t watch while you’re eating. I prefer that the cats not use the toilet. They get their dirty little paw prints all over the seat.
Heh! Our youngest kitty just happens to be half-Siamese, and we already have his dirty little paw prints all over the toilet seat, because he will get up on the seat and lean waaaaay over and drink out of the toilet! Yeah, I know, ewwww. He will also walk into the shower (when it’s not on) if you leave the door open and lap up any standing puddles of water in there! Weird, cuz it’s not like they don’t have fresh water in a bowl!
Cats’ drinking habits are maybe the weirdest things about them. Well, amongst the Top 10 Weirdest Things about them. Every cat has their own habits, and they’re all weird. My husband’s cat, her thing is plant/flower water. She likes nothing better than the water out of my rose bowls in summer. Except maybe the water out of my foot bath in winter. My cat, her favourite thing in the whole world is trickling tap water, which leads to excessive water usage when we forget to turn it off. :smack: Of course, every water glass in the house has been liberally sampled if you turn your back on it for two seconds.
So, how did the litter box move go? I think it will probably be fine - since our cats examine every square inch of the house multiple times per day, they always know where the litter boxes are.
