# Cat Name Generator.

Can’t figure out what to call your new kitty? [Friskies](https://www.friskies.com/cat-names?utm_campaign=always+on&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_content=cat-friskies-Google%7CNon+Branded%7CCute/General%7CCat+Names&utm_term=common+cat+names) has a website for this very problem. And it’s free.
I have to tell you all, I have played with the name generator. And some of the names it comes up with are a little questionable. Maybe it was just my (bad) luck-of-the-draw for me. YMMV.
BTW, I already have two new kitties (as I have already told you). And their names are strictly descriptive. Snowball is white. And Twinkle has black hair with gray highlights, so her hair looks like stars twinkling (get it?).
And feel free to share what names you generate with this site. I would love to know my bad luck with it isn’t typical.

Weird names.
For Pandora, they offered “Cheeky”.
For Sebastian, they offered “Walky-Talky” and “Mr. Flailtail” (W.T.F.?)
For Baxter, they offered “Moonbeam”

For our tuxedo, they offered “Tigerbutter”. Totally not appropriate for a black cat.

I was recommended Bumbletail and Cat-Bot. They don’t really appeal to me. I think it could be useful for shelters and fosterers who need to come up with lots of names, though.

I think I’ve mentioned this here one before: Hank Ketchum, original cartoonist of Dennis the Menace, did a story arc about 35 or 40 years ago, in which Dennis adopted a stray cat, which he named Hotdog.
The theme of the whole arc was that none of the other characters in the strip could accept that a cat could be named Hotdog, and everyone told Dennis that he couldn’t name his cat that. Dennis, however, insisted that he could name a cat any name he wanted, and Hotdog was as perfectly cromulent as any other name.

Missile? terrible name for Smokey
Trouble…that is merely OK for Tina Louise (aka Tuna Louise)
Dozer eh, again merely OK as a name for Jinx.
they need more options to pick from, nothing for shy or sneaky or cats that vary wildly in their attitude…

I tried once for each of my cats.
Baby got Rumple, actually not a bad fit.
Rummy got Moto-Neko :dubious:
Anna got Gazer - totally inappropriate for her.
They need more choices in the generator - the few they have just don’t fit much.

That name is awesome. We had a long-haired kitten adopt us by meowing at the door until we opened it, and running in. We happened to be playing [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_U0N-KsXPg) on the stereo at the time, so naturally the cat got named “Deborah Hairy.”

Or Elizabeth Shaw, the woman who married Herman Melville. Elizabeth would be a good name for a cat, but I have a strong preference for giving pets actual names. No “Puffy” or “Frisky.” We’ve always had Irenes, Simons, Joeys, & Madeleines. We had a dog named Ruby, but she came with that name.

They didn’t do too badly for my cats.
For Natasha, they suggested Princess Wilder which is OK considering she only responds to Princess or Principessa anyway.
For Boris, they suggested Turbo, which is actually an excellent name for a black cat that enjoys taking things apart (he’s taken the filter out of the stove exhaust fan twice) and who I have found at various times walking around carrying things such as a screw and duct tape (I’m not sure what he’s building in the basement but I am pretty sure I don’t want to know).
