Cat problem--her meow is broken

I love that one. We always know when there’s something exciting in the house such as a fly or something even more exciting outside such as a bird or a squirrel when we hear this sound. My cats also tremble when they do it.

I love that sound and the tremble. And the shifting their weight from foot to foot… what’s hilarious to do at that point is to “trigger them”… they see a bug across the room or whatever, and they’re chattering and crouched and ready to go… totally focused…and you come along and poke them on the upper part of one of their back legs. OFF THEY GO as if it had been the moment they decided to pounce! Except they hadn’t decided yet to go and about five steps into their charge they stop and get all confused. Then they give you a dirty look. Heh heh heh.

LOVE the little prey-watching trill. It’s so weird.

It’s also possible for kitties to catch colds, just like humans. Misty had a hell of a nasty one when we first got her.

Good luck with your little furball!

That is cruel, mean and vicious…and I’m glad I’m not the only one to do that.

None of my cats meow in the conventional way.

Titania says Meeeeeep
Desdemona says Melerup
Sedna says meeeee almost silently

You’re mean. :stuck_out_tongue: I love the “butt wiggle” that goes with it.

And then of course there is the “silent meow” where the cat looks at you and opens her mouth as if to meow, but makes no sound. Just gives you the “The food bowl is empty and I’m starving to death and so weak I can’t even make a sound…” look.

Of course, I fill up the food bowl. Which she will go sniff and walk away.

My favorite is the little half-meow, half-purr that sounds like a pigeon cooing.

Not that weird. Till then, she just didn’t have anything to say.

My Russian Blue mix, Katya, makes cooing sounds much more often than she meows. She very rarely meows, except in the cat carrier on the way to the vet.

In addition to the cooing sounds, she makes a little squeaking sound- a short, high-pitched mew that means “Come over and pet me while I eat.” It’s very cute (and then she purrs when you pet her while she eats).

We’ve been trying to teach WhyBaby the sounds that animals make. You know, "the cow says ‘moo!’, the dog says ‘woof!’, the cat says “meow!’”

She thinks we’re batshit insane. She can hear our cats perfectly well, and neither one says “meow.” One says “Ma–” and the other says “MAAAAOOOOWWWW”. So WhyBaby worked it out for herself, and will tell you kitties say “Mao.”. As in the Chairman.

(I always wanted a cat named Chairman Meow, but my significant other always vetoed me.)

When I was little, we had a cat named Meow, and because I couldn’t pronounce Meow, she become Mao Mao.

could be a frog in her throat. Have you looked?

I can send some meows your way too.

When I was a kid, we had one that sounded like she was trying to say “brown”.

Do you have a picture of Katya that you could post? I’ve been told that one of our cats (we got her from the Humane Society) looks like a Russian Blue, so I’ve been thinking she might be some kind of Russian Blue mix. It would be interesting to compare.

Do I have the only cat that grunts?
He does it when he is mad, or happy just when he deems the situation necessary for a grunt.

We have a Russian Blue mix with green eyes. A beautiful cat. The main difference between him and pictures I’ve seen of Russian Blues is that he’s far from lithe. More like Jabba the Cat.

Mr Spock (aka Fat Boy) grunts. He also snores.

At the moment, no. I’ve got a picture of both kitties that I’ll post when I get around to it, but it’s not that great for comparing Katya to pictures of Russian Blues.

She does look a fair bit like the mother cat in the picture of the mother cat and kittens on this page, though.

Katya is lithe- she’s much thinner and more elongated than Luna, our fat Siamese mix.

Ha! I’ve got two Jabbas myself. My suspected Russian Blue mix is very small and thin, though. She’s also the snuggliest damn thing I’ve ever seen. Her daughter is fatter. Both have green eyes.

Anne Neville, those are some insanely cute kittens! My gray kitty had babies too. She was pregnant when we adopted her (four for the price of one!).

Here’s a picture of:
Mama
Fuzzy, her baby
And, for size comparison:
Mama with the two fat ones. (Notice the one with the poofy cheeks in the middle. He doesn’t know cats aren’t supposed to have poofy cheeks).
