I was thinking of that time that a Tennessee family’s house burned, and the FD wouldn’t put it out because they hadn’t paid for their yearly subscription, or something like that. So, apparently it isn’t just taken care of by taxes everywhere.
Chernobyl, the outside cat we feed, scared the hell out of me one day. I had walked onto our front porch and out to the steps when I hear a loud “Meow!” right above my head.
She’s on the roof, and is giving me her usual sob story about how she’s starving and won’t I please give the poor hungry kitteh some food?
I’m standing there stunned trying to figure out how she got on the roof, when she runs to the edge of the garage roof where the loquat trees are. I got there in time to watch her very amusing and undignified descent. Part backward, part sideways, part headfirst and the rest falling - she appeared at my feet very pleased with herself.
Yes, I fed her. Again. Little beggar gets fed at least 4 times daily…
Oh - they had to pull the stove out from the wall a little (which was incredibly hot by that time!) and reach behind it with a broomstick to lever the gas shut-off valve.
Bought a new stove the next day, haha.
I think the reason we didn’t call the gas company was it was night and we had a brain fart thinking everyone at the gas company had gone home.
