I haven’t done this but have been looking into it. What I have been hearing suggests going for the corrective lenses. The question of how well they work is more one of how close they come to fixing it, rather than whether they make it better or worse. About the change over time, doctors told me that most of us don’t change much once we’ve needed glasses for a few years, except for the gradual loss of accomodation (or presbyopia).
I like the idea of getting corrected for distant vision and then wearing reading glasses for close things. For one thing, reading glasses are so cheap and available you can leave them sprinkled all over your usual haunts, so they’re always ready when you need them. For another thing, you can also get weak ones for computer use and strong ones for, say, your hobby painting flowers on people’s toenails.
