Cataract Surgery

Yup.

After the surgery you need to wear a clear plastic eye patch over the eye when you sleep so you don’t accidentally rub it in bed. That’s only for a week. A little bit of an inconvenience, but I can still read in bed with it.

No complaints here.

I’m glad you’ve had good success with your operation. Our vision is so important to quality of life.

I’m feeling more confident. I’ve got a experienced ophthalmologist that’s done hundreds of cataract surgeries. He’ll take care of me.

Without having had the surgery, I have noticed my eyesight fluctuating. At my next exam, I’ll ask the doctor. Thanks!

I’m scheduled for surgery on my right eye mid July.

It has the weakest vision.

I’m looking forward to restoring my vision. The doctor has been monitoring my cataracts for several years.

Sometimes they’ll do them closer together - mine were originally scheduled for a month apart, but the doctor had a cancellation so it wound up being 2 weeks. Good for me, as that fit the finances better (we’d hit our out of pocket that year, and we were going to be able to itemize medical expenses on our tax return). I would not want both eyes done on the same day - what if the doc was having a bad day, or something else went wrong!

I had basically no pain during recovery. Possibly some mild irritation - but the drops included (IIRC) a steroid, an antibiotic, and an NSAID.

Enipla, congrats on the second eye being done!

A friend of mine had one of hers done at a center t hat didn’t even require her to take her shirt off (she did have to, at the other). It was kind of interesting to see the different approaches - mine were pretty much the same (same facility) though the eye drop protocol in pre-op was slightly different. Hers were different from mine, and different from each other.

Re the eye shield: I may have mentioned this upthread, but be careful how you tape it in place or you might scare / confuse yourself! I had noticed, right after surgery, that my vision was better. Then I went home, put the eye shield on, and took a nap. I stumbled to the bathroom at one point, and noticed that my vision in that eye was REALLY hazy. At first I thought it was just because I’d had surgery, then I recalled I’d been seeing better before I snoozed, and got worried, then I realized I had put tape over the middle of the shield - and the haze was from the tape. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: :face_with_monocle:

The ophthalmologist mention I’ll have depth perception and possibly balance problems after my first eye is done. There will be a significant imbalance between my new 20/20 eye and the near sighted eye.

That’s another reason to do the 2nd eye sooner.

I hope my surgery isn’t postponed. I’m on blood thinners to avoid covid clots. I’ll be off them for 4 or 5 days before surgery. Hopefully that’s long enough.

Wait, what?

Yeah, I couldn’t hide from it forever. I have the vax and both boosters. Still test Positive 6-24. So far no symptoms except in my blood work.

I think I’ll be off the blood thinners and can get my cat surgery.

Is it unusual to be on blood thinners for covid? I haven’t known anyone who has.

Covid cloatting is a known problem.

I had 2 blood tests before putting me on thinners for ten days. I’m also making a point to walk around the backyard twice a day. Keep moving.

I stop the shots 5 days before cataract surgery. They say it’s sufficient time.

Interesting - thanks!

A year ago this month since both my eyes were done. They were two weeks apart. Did not have problems with depth perception after doing the first eye and before the second one. The whole thing cost me $5500, and I consider it worth every penny.

Right eye is done. I follow-up tomorrow with doc. Going home and will listen to music.

My depth perception is way out. Don’t feel like watching tv.

Earned my first old geezer badge.

Still pleasantly buzzed. They give you the good stuff before surgery.

Bandages came off. I read 20/20 on the eye chart.

I’m very excited. I’ve been near sighted my entire life. My lens prescription maxed out 8 years ago and my vision deteriorated significantly. I should have gotten surgery last year. Covid delayed my surgery.

I read license plates on the Interstate and am amazed how bright and clear my world has become.

My other eye is blurry and faded. Even with glasses license plates are indistinguishable blobs.

I have to wear a eye protector at night for 5 nights. I’ll get the other eye done in 3 to 4 weeks. I’m looking forward to having restored vision.

I will need reading glasses. That’s not a big deal.

That’s great aceplace57. When thinks deteriorate slowly, it’s hard to notice.

Having your eyesight back after such a simple surgery is… well eye opening.

The change in eyesight sneaks up on us.

I’m watching tv. The right eye is sharp with vivid colors. Left eye looks like I’m seeing through a fogged up window. I had no idea my vision was that bad.

Yup, it’s…um…really eye-opening.

Timely thread for me as I’m scheduled to do right eye Sept. 7th and the left the following week. While I didn’t think I’d do it at first, I’m opting for the multi-focus lenses with astigmatism correction.

I had vitreous separation in both eyes a few years ago and the resultant plethora of floaters allowed the cataracts to kind of sneak up on me. For sport, I target shoot and ultimately realized I could not focus on the sigh on the end of a rifle barrel. That’s about the same distance as a computer screen, but much more specific.

The reports from y’all are good to see (I haven’t finished reading yet, this is a long thread).

Now I have to think about what to do with my collection of clip-on sunglasses.

Donno about clip on sunglasses. But I gave all my reading glasses to the library.

They told me after they do the first eye they’ll replace the lens for it with plain glass, so I wonder if they won’t do that for the other eye as well, in which case I could go on using the clip-ons.
