Catholics and Anal Sex

But birth control doesn’t preclude reproduction, it just decreases the chances, so it shouldn’t it be ok?? (I know it isn’t)

I stil want to hear about elderly, married Catholics

A female muslim friend tells me that many muslim girls have anal sex for years before they have vaginal, just to preserve the hymen for marriage. How fucking sad.

It seems I am the only practicing catholic here with a bit of knowledge of this fact. The rest of the other posters did get most of it right, “sex” that is not done for the purposes of procreation is a no-no (aka sin). Any sex between consenting but unmarried adults (in catholicism) is a no-no. Anal sex, oral sex, homosexuality, masturbation and beastiality are called (believe it or not) sodomy. All forms of sodomy are sins whether married or not. It doesnt matter if its done for foreplay, midplay or endplay, it is a sin. Dont ask me why, I just answer stuff on this board. You gotta ask the guys in robes who (supposedly) never had sex but know why certain forms of sex is a sin.

Do you mean that a person cannot have sex at some point in their lives and later decided to become a celibate priest or nun? Just curious.

As long as you talk about with a Priest afterwards, you’re OK.

It is a little known fact that priests become celebate after their vows. However, most are taught at the seminaries that sex is a sin if done outside of marriage and if you are planning to be a priest you are not getting married. Nice catch, eh? :stuck_out_tongue:

It is also a little known fact that you can become a priest after you have been married. Widowers are allowed to become priests. It is not common but it is allowed. These priests rarely, if ever, are in a high enuf position to explain (canonically) why certain forms of sex are sins.

oh… uh nuns have to be virgins. Dont know a whole lot about that aspect of catholicism, but I’m pretty sure penguins have to be “pure”.

With apologies to TJ for the hijack, and, I must say, You. Look. Mahvelous! (for a dead man), I just have to ask. Why is this so sad, istara? Many women really enjoy it, and can achieve orgasm either from anal alone, or anal with manual stimulation. And, religion aside, what’s wrong with pleasing your partner in whatever way you can? Personally, while I wouldn’t want to do anal exclusively, I think it ROCKS!

I would agree that it’s sad that anyone lets a stranger dictate their sexual practices, but I don’t think that’s what you meant. Or, did I misread that?

Well, I don’t think that’s true…or at least it didn’t used to be. In fact, there are two Dominican nuns who are “blessed” (the step before sainthood) who were widows.

I defer respectfully to your knowledge. I am not well versed in the nuns.

There are instances of married couples becoming priest/nun. They even get to STAY married. Kinda makes sense since divorce is not allowed. The kicker is, though, NO SEX FOR YOU! So, as long as they don’t have sex, they get to remain married AND get to be priest and nun.

Whaddaya mean anal sex can’t result in procreation? Where the hell do you think little baby lawyers come from?

Shade, elderly married Catholics are covered by how it is a physical condition that precludes pregnancy – but they would still be forbidden to engage in “unnatural” practices.

And yes, celibacy is a rule AFTER taking the vows. And let us remember the not small matter of penance and absolution; you need not even have been particulary well-behaved before hearing the calling to religious life.

As to the comments of istara and Khadaji, it’s more of a cultural thing – and Khadaji’s, as he has himself detected, is just locker-room lore. Which doesn’t prevent it from actually happening, just that it’s not so much a teaching of the respective religion, as a cultural sexual more within some groups that happen to be Muslim/Catholic (It’s OK, I remember the “common wisdom” at my hispanic-catholic school about Anglo girls – that they’d go for oral sex at the drop of a hat–; reality was so disappointing). Actual Catholic teaching is that “virginity” is not just about the hymeneal membrane, but is a whole-person state.

What makes it “sad”, IMO, is that on top of having their sexual activity restricted by others, the girls in those communities are then vulnerable to what I’ll call “virginity terrorism”. Have the husband denounce she came to the marriage a non-virgin, he disgraces her and her father; a rape renders her unmarriageable or forces her to marry her own rapist; etc. Also, it can create pressure on them to acquiesce to a whole set of sexual activities because “it’s OK as long as you stay a [hymeneal] virgin”, when they may have been inclined to just not do it at all.

For SHAME!! Lawyers are certainly not conceived thru anal sex. How could you even suggest such a vile thing!
…theyre spawn thru a covenant with the devil, arent they?

:stuck_out_tongue:

Well, in my current mood, I couldn’t comment on the culture, as a whole, without offending a whole lot of people. So, I’ll just say I agree, it would be sad if the women felt pressured into doing something they didn’t want to do. But, I also recognize that there are other cultures that don’t share our puritan/victorian views on anal sex, and don’t have the same taboos regarding it, that we do. I can’t say whether this is true of Islamic cultures.

Good grief.

The number of absolutely inaccurate, outright WRONG commentary in this thread boggles the mind.

No, there are no such instances in the Roman Catholic tradition - not one. I am baffled as to why you’d devote the effort to typing something you know to be wrong, or typing something for which you haven’t a clue as to its accuracy.

It is true that, under certain circumstances, a married man may be ordained a Roman Catholic priest. If that happens, there is no requirement to become celibate.

And, although X~Slayer(ALE) has since disavowed his position, there is no requirement that nuns be virgins before becoming nuns.

Brick,

The Children of the Mind of Christ allow married couples to become priests and nuns, and they will someday be a Catholic religious order. At least, according to the Ender’s Game series of books.

Well, that’s certainly possible, but since it is a conjecture as to something that may, or may not, happen in the distant future, it more or less buggers the issue. So to speak.

The question. Buggers the question. Damn.

Hah. You said “bugger.”

Dave and JRD - that’s more or less why it’s sad. Sad because it’s delusional - because in the eyes of Allah, or God, sex is sex is sex. Sad that they have to try to preserve a thin film of skin, that they may not even have anyway. Sad that all the emphasis is on them as women being virgins, not on men. Sad that (for some women) anal sex is not always enjoyable, and can be damaging if not done properly - and you can bet your bottom dollar that the younger and less experienced the couple, the less care they are likely to take - and carries the same if not higher risks of sexual disease.

Anal sex: fine, if part of a fully consensual relationship. If done in the misguided belief it’s part of a god-loophole, or if done under pressure to keep a boyfriend AND a hymen, then very very sad.
