If there is one thing that is as predictable as sunrise, it’s that Catholics will bitch about any change whatsoever. They like to sleepwalk through the responses, basically. I remember when we got our new baptismal font that you can be really emersed in, with a switch on fountain thing, the old ladies who like to sit in the back complained it made them want to pee.

As a musician, I am still waiting for better settings for the revised-language propers and ordinaries. Many are still very clunky. They’ll come. Meanwhile, we are (re)instituting some wonderful new Gregorian chant antiphons in places where they’ve been omitted since Vatican II, and that can only be cool.

> Vague, fuzzy memories of the Latin class I took 35 years ago come back to me…since Latin has both declension of nouns and conjugation of verbs, the pronouns indicating direction, possession & stuff like that are implied in the version of the noun. So “through” may be implied by using “culpa”. Maybe.

> Because I distinctly remember going from “et cum spiritu tuo” to “and with your spirit” in the 60s.

Hilarious (to a seven-year old) Catholic school joke from the 50s.

What is the Pope’s phone number?
Et cum spiritu tuo
