# cattle drive

I was watching a show the other day about Loving and Goodnight, the Texans who drove cattle between Texas and New Mexico. How profitable was such a cattle drive? How much would a cowboy make on such a drive?

The wiki article on [Loving](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oliver_Loving) says he made $36 (~ $756 2005 dollars) a head on his first drive from Texas to Illinois. Enough impetus to continue the practice apparently.
