Actually, neither particularly fast nor harsh. Once an anchor leaves the anchor desk they are, for all intents and purposes, out. Walter Cronkite, Roger Mudd, David Brinkley (after he left ABC), Max Robinson, Connie Chung. Cronkite continued to be an elder statesman type, but not for CBS. Mudd and Chung wound up on cable. Rather, at least, was eased out. ---

Highjack Wasn’t Rather attacked in the subway a few years back. I kinda remember reading a very fun Mike Royko column about it. ---

I hope he goes to CNN or MSNBC and gets back to investigative reporting. He’s a good man and I’m sorry to see CBS treat him that way.
