Surely by now Unca Cecil has taken note of the various threads in this forum wherein his followers are making plans for IRL meetings. I’m curious as to what his reaction to this development might be. Two possibilities spring immediately to mind: 1. Fear and Loathing The Teeming Millions get organized! Can this be a good thing? Note that nearly all of these gatherings are planned for bar-type settings. I don’t see anyone planning to get together at Art Museums or Juice Bars. Didn’t Hitler get his start in a Beer Hall? It gives one pause. 1. Franchise! Think of the possibilities! A SD chapter in every burg of 5,000 or more! I can see the dollar signs in Cecil’s eyes as he dispatches Little Ed to every corner of the globe, with armloads of SD Coffee Mugs and T-Shirts. He could become the Ray Kroc of rational thought! Now, I’m a Newbie, as far as postings go, athough I’ve been lurking and reading since this board’s inception, and I thought I had a pretty good feel for what might capture the imagination of the TMs. Either I am surprisingly (at least to me) obtuse, or this thread died a premature death, due to the time of posting and/or the bruhaha over C#3’s banishment. So, knowing full well that I may be dragged to the Pit for (shudder) posting to my own OP for the purpose of attempting a resurrection, I’m going to risk it anyway. Hey, folks, it was a tough week (3 fly-in, fly-out meetings in 3 days), and, sadly, this is the only half-way decent non-work thought I had all week. I know, pretty pathetic. So, flame if you must, or ignore if appropriate, but I persevere. Do you think Cecil might show up (in false wig and glasses, of course) at the Chicago meeting? No way man, I’m going. Even if no one else is there. I’ll just sit and drink alone. Besides, I think we Chicago folk owe it to Cecil to get together and unite our powers – or something like that. I suggest Poopmania. I have it on good authority that Cecil was originally gonna call his column the Straight Poop, until he realized that he would become known as _the Old Poop himself_. ---

Don’t get me wrong, I _like_ “DopeCon”. I just think somebody might get upset, when the local news reports on a dope convention sponsored by the Chicago Reader. =B^) “CecilMania” is an interesting idea, but I think it sounds goofy. Don’t start mixing those names together, either. “DopeMania” is even worse than the original suggestion, and “CecilCon” sounds like one of those dietary fiber supplements. =B^) * * * Laugh hard; it’s a long way to the bank. ---
