Celebrities who always appear as a fictional alter-ego

Dean Martins drinking was mostly an act until after his divorce.

Whitney did a 60 Minutes interview a year or so back as himself and took the interviewer around his him town in Iowa.

Paul Reubens also had cameos in Cheech and Chong’s Next Movie and The Blues Brothers, both not in the Pee-Wee character.

He also did a truly demented deformed in-bred last-of-the-line Prince character on 30 Rock. Also, he had a recurring role on Pushing Daisies. Again - not Pee-Wee. He works a lot.

Yeah, I’ve certainly heard him give “out of character” interviews as “Col-bear,” so unless he’s getting AWFULLY meta, I think that’s the pronunciation he just uses.

In fact, the only time I’ve heard him use “Col-bert” is IN character, when he mutters to himself while aping a nervous breakdown / panic attack.
