[Milton Brown](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milton_Brown#Death) helped invent Western Swing. But he died after a wreck in Fort Worth back in 1936, leaving the field to Bob Wills.

The high harmonies of the Louvin Brothers were loved by Gram Parsons, Emmylou & many others. I’ve got to quote [Wikipedia](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Louvin_Brothers) here:

> [@](#):
>
> Ira Louvin was notorious for his drinking and short temper. Married four times, his third wife shot him multiple times in the chest and hand after he allegedly beat her. Although seriously injured, he survived. When performing and drinking, Ira would sometimes become angry enough on stage to smash his mandolin; otherwise his style was heavily influenced by Bill Monroe. He died on June 20, 1965 when a drunken driver struck his car in Williamsburg, Missouri. At the time, a warrant for Ira’s arrest had been issued on a DUI charge.

[Don Rich](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Rich#Death)played lead guitar & fiddle with Buck Owens’ Buckaroos. And sang harmony. Crashed his bike in California in 1974; after that, it was all Hee Haw for Buck.

> “He was like a brother, a son, and a best friend. Something I never said before, maybe I couldn’t, but I think my music life ended when he died. Oh yeah, I carried on and I existed, but the real joy and love, the real lightning and thunder is gone forever.”

[Clarence White](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clarence_White), bluegrasser & pioneer of country rock, was killed by a drunk driver while loading equipment–back in 1973. Gram Parsons’ “In My Hour of Darkness” was partly dedicated to him–& to Brandon deWilde, already mentioned. (Honest, I knew this before checking Wikipedia–it’s the dates & stuff that I forget.)

Oh, and Richard Fariña fell off the back of a motorcycle in 1966.

Now–which of these guys has been mentioned while I was composing this tl;dr?

[Fred Mills](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Mills_%28musician%29), who for several decades played trumpet in the Canadian Brass.
