Trump released a statement today. He’s not running.

Can’t say I’m surprised. He’s way too thin-skinned for politics.

I can only hope you’re correct… can’t wait to watch the news. He’s too self-centered for me to want him as my president. It’s his way or the highway type of mentality. It seems to me that any democrats ideals would be pushed so far out of his agenda that it would seem more like a dictatorship than a democracy.

This just in: professional famewhore and race baiter Donald Trump is not running for president. He did, however, bilk NBC out of $60 million and garner a ton of publicity (I guess there really is no such thing as bad press). I’m not sure if he’s just lucky, sleazy, an idiot, or a genius. Maybe a little of all of those things.

I’ll bet everyone wanted to come back, to prove their firings were unjust, to get some more screen time, or attention for their charity. Even NeNe.

That’ll teach me not to refresh the page after my midday check in. 🙂

Did you notice how the crowd applauded when he said he would _not_ be running for president? I thought that was hilarious. Of course, it might have been in front of a crowd of NBC execs so that makes sense. At least we’re all in agreement: Trump on TV is infinitely better than Trump in public office. I’m not sure if he could handle the politics of being city dogcatcher.

How did he bilk NBC? Did they pay $60 million for CA? That’s 30 years in Sheen dollars!

> We know the Def Leppard thing will get worked out. Bringing Geoffrey Holder back is a really good idea, one that might even tip the scales in favor of Marlee’s team, but I have a feeling that will not work out. Nevertheless, Marlee has continued to do what she does best - fade into the background and make the occasional call for big bucks.

Yeah, whatever the issue is with Def Leppard, it’s not a deal-breaker, just a panty-twister. They’ll do the gig they’ve signed up for, and John will find some way to get them announced. Whereas Geoffrey Holder is a far sketchier deal. He wasn’t arranged ahead of time by the 7-Up folks.

> Not that I thought Trump was ever an arbiter of good judgment, but I really think she skated on the “I’m Deaf” thing and never really got challenged for not doing very much except have friends with deep pockets. Piers is a smarmy fuck but he did at least challenge her in the interview.

When did he challenge her? I saw him make a joke out of her not being able to hear being an advantage, that he wouldn’t have had to listen to Amarosa.

I missed some of the early episodes, but I haven’t seen her do anything brilliant. Fade into the background sounds right.

> The only person who could have given John Rich a challenge would have been Li’l Jon, but I think JR wisely lied to the interviewers and put Marlee in his place. Aside from the extreme laid-back-itis, he has been a consistently creative and dynamic team member.

Well, there was the episode where Gary was in charge, and Lil Jon sat on his ass because Gary didn’t direct him. But that was mostly letting Gary fry himself.

> All this, of course, is aside from the actual performance on the task, which John Rich, I predict, will absolutely smash Marlee on.

My one concern is the gimmick with Twisted Sister feels similar to Cherry Dr Pepper and thier “KISS of Cherry” campaign, with KISS in full makeup. This may feel too similar.

> Also I don’t get why he was so hung up on the boombox design. Ghetto blasters have always struck me as more of an '80s thing.

That’s what I thought. I think the boom box box was a great idea, but getting the artwork to work and not be too busy and still convey boom box was apparently a challenge, and they don’t have weeks to fine tune the graphics, they have to pump it out in a day.

That’s the big thing to me - these teams are supposed to be creating new ad campaigns and supposedly completely ready ads - have any of the print or video ads ever actually been used? Any of the campaigns been more than just the event filmed for the show? Has any company taken the concept, even if they had to rework it to give it more polish?

They did release Brett Michaels’ Snapple last year. From what I’ve seen in the stores, the label design looks pretty similar to what they designed on the show, though I have no idea how much they fine-tuned the drink itself.

Right - I remember that she had first pick, but forgot that it wasn’t for team member. I don’t know what the Harlem Globetrotters thing was all about, but that was a better choice than picking Meat Loaf.

> [@Irishman](#):
>
> I can see why she picked Meatloaf - he is very creative and has a lot of great ideas.

The guy’s creative, but he does not play well with others. I suppose as PM it is her job that focus his creativity into a plan, but some of his ideas are too over-the-top to carry out with their resources and very limited time. Sure, this goes back to focusing his lofty ideas into something executable, but I wouldn’t want to deal with that kind of hand-holding and constant reining in. I would let him be somebody else’s problem.

Knowing that this is a Mark Burnett production, did anyone else immediately think that the Globetrotters are going to feature Flight Time and Big Easy?

The second show is going to have a live performance of some sort to roll out the new campaign and packaging. She could choose to have the Globetrotters perform or Def Leppard perform, and get the appropriate era for the Rollback theme. She chose a visual display and sport she enjoys over a rock group she can’t hear.

> [@](#):

Well, she did pause to decide between Meatloaf and Star. John had a no-brainer automatic pick of Lil Jon. Marlee paused to consider which she wanted. She didn’t even jump to Mark - she didn’t have any direct experience with him was probably why she didn’t pick him. She had worked with Star, Meatloaf, and LaToya. LaToya was weak, though did a few things well. Star is not a good follower and Star’s graphics and ideas and branding contributed to at least two losses.

You’re probably right, it looks like Meatloaf is going to overdo things again and Marlee is not going to provide proper control/guidance to keep things in line. But I would prefer Meatloaf’s creativity and effort over Star’s difficulty. Their last competition is a case in point. Star was looking to Meatloaf to give her everything she was to say when he never claimed he was writing her script or telling her what to say about the product. He was trying to shoot the box for the close of the video, she was saying “We’ll use the logo.” I don’t know who edited the video and who decided what was in and out. That was Marlee not managing well. But Star seemed to be expecting Meatloaf to tell her what to say, too.

Wow, I can’t believe the audience just cheered the NeNe package. One of the most classless and vulgar contestants to appear on Apprentice.

I’ve done college theater. I can’t imagine not having the performers in the wings several minutes before they are introduced. I’m baffled how John Rich screwed up like that. All he had to do was look to the wings and see if the band was standing there before introducing them. That smells like a scripted moment to me.

I thought Marlee’s commercial was horrible. Really, really bad stuff except for the classic 70’s 7up spokesman. He was good. I like everything John Rich has done except for the intro screwup.

Wow, we have 50 more minutes of filler before this thing is decided? Crap. I may switch the channel until 9:50.

On every level I thought John outperformed Marlee. His organization skills, leadership etc. were impressive all season. He even kept Star from taking over. That alone is a feat.

Way too much filler in these finales. I got the dishwasher loaded and some pots washed during the b.s.
