We’re practically halfway through the year already and neither I nor my husband have any points. One of my pics, Julie Newmar, will be at [Steel City Con](http://www.steelcitycon.com/) in August. Now I’m not _that_ desperate for points - yet - but she will be within reach… Is this why that particular rule was invented? ---

There was something locally (though it _could_ have been nationwide) that was called “StarTV.” At least, I think that’s what it was called. It was a one-channel set-up that would show stuff for kids during the day, and at night more adult-oriented material. Not pornographic or anything, but geared to a more adult audience. They did show some softcore on occasion (it’s where I first heard of [Sylvia Kristel](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000482/?ref_=nv_sr_5) in [Private Lessons](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082948/?ref_=nm_knf_i3), and was introduced to [My Tutor](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085980/?ref_=nv_sr_3)). And I happened to see John Hurt as John Merrick, and it scared the everloving shit out of me. I developed an almost-psychosis about it, convinced that I’d wake up one morning with the same deformities. It’s a good movie, but John Hurt still creeps me out in everything I’ve seen him in since then. ---

Oh, man, John Hurt was cast in one of the lead roles in Terry Gilliam’s _The Man Who Killed Don Quixote_, this could prove to be one more setback in Gilliam’s pursuit of the legend of la Mancha. ---

The authorities have confirmed that the pilot is dead, but it has not yet been confirmed whether Horner was the pilot. ---

Ex-White House chef Scheib remembered for magnificent meals Scheib recently moved from Florida to Taos. He was 61. He spent 11 years leading the White House kitchen under Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. He was in charge of a full-time staff of five and oversaw a part-time staff of 20. Scheib was known for refocusing the White House kitchen on distinctly American cuisine with seasonal ingredients and contemporary flavors.
