He was actually born in Russia, unlike Walter Koenig, so I suspect he looked at the shift lever and some deep impulse made him think the first symbol stood for “Распутица”. Nobody wants that. ---

But the _Star Trek_ reboot series is about a new crew in their new starship just beginning their mission. I think you’d have a hard time selling Koenig as a guy who just graduated from Star Fleet Academy. ---
