> [@Quartz](#): > > [Dame Vera Lynn](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vera_Lynn) has beaten the Death Pool. Good for her. I play two other DeathPools and I have her on both of the other two. I won’t get points for her, but she will be a unique pick on both. I saw your post above and thought she’d died. I didn’t remember for sure when her birthday was until I checked the link. ---

I met Vera Lynn when i worked at a country house hotel in the English Lakes District in the early 1990s. She and her husband stayed for a few nights, and it was one of those places with sitting rooms and open fires, where the bar staff like me often got a chance to chat with the guests. They were both incredibly nice. I was a keen photographer with a decent camera system, and the hotel manager dragooned me to take a picture of him with Vera and Harry, which then graced his office wall. I still have the Kodachrome slides somewhere in storage back in Australia. ---

And, while I doubt his CIA assassin claim, it was presented so as to be plausible. I loved Chuck. He was delightfully weird, and I’ll miss him. ---
