Well, maybe it was waiting for parts and the dealer decided to show it off.
We do the same thing at the bike shop I work at. We once had a customer’s $18,000 bike on display for a few weeks while waiting for ceramic bearings from Europe. Bike nerds lose their marbles over machines like that, so why not display them while they’re on the premises?
Right now we have three bikes on display that all have owners waiting for the snow to melt. We get to temp customers with very beautiful and expensive bikes (one is worth over $10,000) without having to pony up any cash, and the customer gets to show everyone how rich he or she is.
Back to the OP: I want to know who forgot to turn on the freaking alarm when they closed up for the day.

Look, I’m no fan of Guy Fieri, but it takes a really spiteful personality to think that a stolen car is a Good Thing. I mean, he’s just a guy on TV. You can choose to watch his show or you can choose not to. It’s not like he’s a Glenn Beck type who’s influencing people to think or do bad things. He shows diners fer christssake.

Might I add that “he” (or whoever the hell picks out the restaurants for Triple D) at least has good taste in restaurants. If it hadn’t been for that show I would never have found out about [Gloria’s](http://www.gloriascafela.com/), for example. Mmmmm.
I can see why people might think he’s annoying but my bar is pretty low for folks who host shows like that (where they’re mostly showing you stuff and not doing much else). I have a knack for tuning them out if they get on my nerves. I’m not really a fan of Marc Summers, but that show he hosts where they show snackfood factories and stuff like that is fascinating to me.

Glad to see I’m not the only one. Hell, I don’t like his style, and I’m jealous of his job, but that still doesn’t make him a douchebag. Maybe if he started insulting Emeril’s and Mario’s cooking, but if he started snarking on Sara Lee I’d start watching his network show to help improve his ratings.

Bourdain is the douchebag, IMO. Fieri’s TV persona is fake, obviously so, and grating, but it was designed to fit in with the tone of the show. Bourdain, on the other hand, gives every evidence of being a genuinely smug, sarcastic asshole. He may get to go to somewhat cooler, more expensive places that are farther away than what Fieri’s show is budgeted for, but they still do essentially the same thing. Fieri makes me want to turn off the TV. Bourdain makes me want to kick him in the nuts until his ears bleed.

Same here, I don’t understand the hate. He gets paid to do a job, and that job appeals to a certain demographic that his show caters to. It’s not like McDonalds employees would dress and act that way if they weren’t getting paid to do so.

You err by taking that comment out of context. The word “wrong” comes from the post I responded to n
In any case, even conceding for the purposes of argument that someone can’t pronounce his own name “wrong,” I still assert that I can accuse him of pronouncing his name like an assclown. There’s norhingmire ridiculous than adopting a name from a foreign language and then trying and failing to pronounce it correctly in that language. It’s like Chinese tattoos worn by someone who can’t read Chinese.

You can if that person didn’t start using that pronunciation until his mid-30s. Most of us have a few more decades of practice at that point.
I agree with your comments on Bourdain, by the way. He may have the single largest ego on TV.

No you can’t. Actors change and mispronounce their names all the time. It’s his TV persona and he is free to pronounce it anyway he wishes… and be right.

Everybody in the US is descended from somebody who came from somewhere else, a good many of whom did not speak English in their native lands. Their descendants, in many\_if not most\_cases do not pronounce their family name the same as it would have been pronounced in “old country.” The town where I grew up had lots of folks descended from Eastern European and Italian stock who pronounced their surname in an Americanized way. Were all of them, and I also, wrong about our own names?

Donthey pronounce it in an Americanized way that they learned from their parents or are they presumptuously trying to re-ethnify themselves fir the purposes of television and then getting it wrong?
And any actor who as an adult adopts a foreign name he can’t pronounce is an assclown.

Eh. If it makes you feel good to look down on him for how he pronounces his own name, have at it. I’d consider it far more assclownish for an obvious American to affect European pronunciation.

That’s the point. He IS affecting European pronunciation and he’s doing it badly. If he stuck with the normalmAmericanized pronunciation nomone would bat an eyelid. He’s trying to be pretentious but he’s not even getting pretension right. That’s what makes it ridiculous.

I don’t think it is pretention as much as it is an effort to make the screen persona just that little bit more flamboyant. I don’t like that persona either, as I’ve already noted. Before I’d be willing to make a judgement about pretention and associated douchebaggery, I’d have to see him when he isn’t “on.” Bourdain, OTOH, is exactly the same everywhere I see him or read him. He is, as far as I can tell without sitting down for a one-on-one conversation, a true 24 kt asshole.
