> [@Ichbin\_Dubist](#): > > I think cranky ruminations over how hard it is to be in a rock band are pretty common (eg, every other Mott the Hoople song). I can’t think of any notable songs about celebrity from a first-person perspective that present its positive aspects (and being rich and famous can’t be a total drag, right?). _California Girls_ ---

“Hotel California” is apparently not at all about a satanic hotel, but about being trapped in a cocaine fueled California celebrity lifestyle. Rush has “Limelight”: Living on a lighted stage Approaches the unreal For those who think and feel In touch with some reality Beyond the gilded cage Cast in this unlikely role Ill-equipped to act With insufficient tact One must put up barriers To keep oneself intact Cult favorite Christian band Daniel Amos has “Here I Am”: (the slide numbers are not spoken; you just hear a slide projector advancing) Slide #1- Here I am, here I am, driving to the studio with all of our equipment Slide #2- Here I am, here I am, singing in the microphone while the tape is rolling Slide #3- Here I am, here I am, at the photo session smiling at the camera Slide #4- There you are, there you are, getting out your money purchasing the record Slide #5- Here we are, here we are, by way of stereo making minimal contact ---

Speaking of (well, sorta), how could I forget [Even a Dog Can Shake Hands](http://www.metrolyrics.com/even-a-dog-can-shake-hands-lyrics-warren-zevon.html) by Warren Zevon. Although not quite about being a star, more like being a cog in the machine. IIRC, it was used as the theme to a shortlived sitcom about the entertainment industry. ---

This is kinda subtle but I think it makes the point the OP is looking for [“I’m so bloody rich”](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQ-biZh34_g) 😉 ---

Bob Seger’s [Turn the Page](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turn_the_Page_(Bob_Seger_song)) and on the other end Joe Walsh’s [Life’s Been Good](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life's_Been_Good). Already mentioned I see on preview [Previous page](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/celebs-who-write-about-the-celeb-life/524270.md?page=1)
