Fair enough.
I started reading Cell over the weekend and I’m about to put it down, it’s so jarringly similar to The Stand. Alice immediately reminded me of Franny (and, as an aside, it annoys me that King names a 16-year-old Alice, when a modern teenager would be named Brittnay or something!).
The character of Tom is very similar to the professor guy from the Stand. And the Bible-thumping non-crazy reminded me of the monster-shouter from NYC’s Central Park.
I’m not very far into the book.
The point is, as someone else said, King has already done this, and much better.
And as far as Swan Song being much better than The Stand? Its superficial nature and poorly thought-out scenerios weighed it down and I was completely unsatisfied with it by the end. I blasted it on Amazon long ago; I wonder if they still have their old reviews posted? (If not, I’m sure it’s on my computer somewhere …)
