I’m with Lego- I cannot talk on the phone and drive (so I don’t). I found that when I tried it, I couldn’t concentrate on the road and would usually slow WAY down from normal speed, or I’d lose track of where the hell I was going.
Maybe I’m easily distracted, but that’s how it is, and I suspect I’m not alone. I have never had that problem from simply driving with one hand on the wheel. (And I used hands fee long before the ear piece jobbers with my mounted car phone. It still gave me trouble)
Sometimes I wonder if people should even be allowed to walk and use mobile phones at the same time. So far I’ve seen people:
-plow straight into me and not even bother to look up until after they’d bounced off my chest
-weaving from side to side all over the sidewalk as they talk
-slowing down or even coming to a full stop in the middle of a crowded sidewalk as they try to read their email
-swinging their hands out wildly as they talk, oblivious to the people standing near them
I shudder at the thought of any of these idiots piloting two tons of steel down the road.
What’s wrong with yapping on the phone while you’re queuing at a supermarket? I can pay for my stuff at the same time without causing any delay to others. Using a phone at a restaurant, on the other hand, is unclassy.

**That’s a great explanation! I’ve never been able to explain how talking on the phone in the car is so very distracting compared to chatting with a person in the car.
