$15 minimum wage is so two-thousand-and-late. With inflation we’re closer to $20 being the baseline for a livable minimum wage.

Personally, I make $28/hour and I do OK, but that’s because I have no kids and I rent a room in a house that’s fully paid for. I wouldn’t dream of trying to support a family on what I earn.

Unlike Cenk, I’m far too aware of my shortcomings and the skeletons in my closet to believe that I would ever have a shot in hell at holding political office. The extent of my activism is and probably will always be nothing more than voting in every election and griping about the state of things on Facebook and Reddit and the SDMB.

I have heard of him. I’ve watched some of his stuff. Do I get a prize?

So what are you pulling (mildly) for? Just the court case? Ok great, it won’t have much impact on the country one way or another.

Do you think it’s a good idea for democrats to challenge Biden? Do you think that’s the best way to defeat Trump, to defeat Biden first? Because I gotta tell you that doesn’t sound like a smart idea to me.

I see that [Minnesota Congressman Dean Phillips](https://www.cnn.com/2023/10/26/politics/dean-phillips-presidential-campaign-launch/index.html) is now running for President on a “Biden is too old and vulnerable” platform. He’ll be focusing on the New Hampshire primary.

If he splits the vote with Uygur, it could be just the break the Marianne Williamson campaign is looking for!

I’m not sure.
I think cenk has a valid point about Biden and most of the left wing / progressive media actually agrees, but tries to say it in guarded language.

Biden has done a fantastic job, passing a wealth of important legislation, and with an American economy that continues to outstrip even the most gung ho economists’ forecasts.

Meanwhile the republican party is in absolute disarray, scared about talking policy – because most Americans hate their policies – and with a leader trying to dodge multiple jails.

So why is Biden neck and neck with trump in polls?

Part of it is general ignorance about inflation: most Americans seem unaware that American inflation is very low compared to most countries right now. And other issues like energy independence… Even left-oriented media fails to correct misconceptions about these things.

But the other important part is Biden looks frail, looks confused and slow. I don’t make the rules, I just observe that appearances matter in elections.
We need someone forcefully calling out the republicans, and doing the MSM’s job for them on informing Americans.

That person…isn’t going to be cenk, but I think what cenk’s trying to do is just encourage an actual primary to happen.

It’s amusing how often Progressives regurgitate GOP talking points without a hint of self-awareness.

Biden doesn’t look confused and slow. Is he halting for no reason in the middle of speeches? No, that’s a Republican. Is he spewing word salad? No, a Republican is doing that. But Biden is “confused and slow” to you because you want a meme candidate instead of a normal Democrat, so you pull the old “many people are saying” card and repeat the last thing Fox News spurted out.

I think this is relevant to this thread due to Cenk claiming that Biden is too old, and looks frail and slow. That is one of the big reasons why he even started his candidacy, or at least that’s what I gathered here. So I thought I’d post a video from just over a decade ago, and one from a few days ago.

June 3, 2013:

[![](https://img.youtube.com/vi/gFZsIPkfN3Q/hqdefault.jpg "Vice President Biden Speaks at the National Conference on Mental Health") ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFZsIPkfN3Q&t=402s)

October 23. 2023:

[![](https://img.youtube.com/vi/3UlZpJyQQDA/maxresdefault.jpg "LIVE: Biden delivers remarks on growing the economy with his investing in America agenda — 10/23/23") ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UlZpJyQQDA&t=139s)

He does look a bit slower and older. To my eye, it’s not dramatic. Joe always has been a bit slow and deliberate in the way he speaks, I believe this is his way of getting around a severe stutter he has had his whole life. I don’t think you can look at the videos and say there is _no_ difference; he was more energetic before, more animated, more facial expressions. But again, it’s not like we’re looking at two different people.

If there is only that much difference from age 70 (well, 69 1/2) to age 80 (almost, he’s a month away), I don’t expect there to be a giant difference from age 80 to age 84, barring a health incident. I don’t accept Cenk Uygur’s premise that it’s essential that someone else run instead of Biden due to this issue. It’s not that big of a deal.

</div>

The only thing that would demonstrate Cenk cares for Democracy is if he fully stepped down from The Genocide Show. Why? Because otherwise he has a conflict of interest. He makes money from subscribers. What makes Progressives subscribe to political shows? Anger and fear. What drives that? Trump and the GOP in office. Therefore, he has a financial incentive to put Republicans in power and act angry about it.

Far be it from me to start noticing things, but this is pretty obvious.

Also:

Exactly. But the Progressives make hay out of it because they’d rather have Trump than any normal Democrat. At least Trump incites people to join the DSA and other groups and give money to Strong Progressive Voices.

Who was the guy talking about how we should judge people by their words? 🤔

I guess what was meant by that is: ignore _decades_ of that person’s words and instead strain to misinterpret one tweet. Also, look for symbolism and assume the worst intentions.

Oh the irony, it burns!

It’s very obvious that you’ve googled smears about cenk while knowing almost nothing about the guy.

On Biden, how do you explain the dismal polling? How would you explain how even international, non English news sources talk a lot about his frail appearance and declining oratory skill? It’s all a big conspiracy, right? Reality conspiring against you again.

I should also respond to this:

> [@Derleth](#):

Cite please?

This kind of nonsense annoys me because after trump won last time there was something of a meme on MSM that it was because the “Bernie bros” had refused to vote for Clinton. To my knowledge, no evidence was ever presented to support this claim.

If you actually watch progressive media: Sam Seder, Pakman, Meidas touch etc they go to tremendous effort to encourage their viewers to vote, and of course for the democrat candidate.

And Cenk is the same. He sees trump as an existential threat to democracy so wants a real primary to happen on the democrat side.

Swing voters think it is time for a change.

Why?

Doesn’t much matter.

Because of the importance of defeating Trump, Democratic candidates, with low probability of being able to defeat DJT, should drop out. This includes Uyghur, Williamson, and Biden.

It’s dramatic. Maybe not in handpicked videos but certainly in unprepared remarks (of which they are try to have very few). To me there seems to be a lot of whistling in the dark from democrats about Biden’s decline. It looks swift and very bad to me. I would still vote for him over Trump of course. I would vote for Biden’s corpse over Trump. To think it’s going to not be a concern is naive.
