On another board I go to one poster made a joke saying “One can find anything on teh internets!”

Another poster responded with the following:

\*What knot did the Mounties tie into their codline lanyards in 1886, before they got pre-tied issue?

Sadly, not everything is out there. \*

Now, I’m not sure if this is a trick question or not(pun knot intended)😃
But I have been amazed in the past at how good Dopers are at finding answers, so I’m presenting this statement, hoping that it CAN be found.

I’ve tried looking for the answer, with various combos of terms, but haven’t found it myself.

This [page](http://www.diggerhistory.info/pages-uniforms/canada.htm) has this [photo.](http://www.diggerhistory.info/images/uniforms4/RCMP.jpg) As far as I can see, it looks like a [lanyard knot](http://www.scoutingresources.org.uk/knots/knots_kl.html#l) which seems to have a long history. Also might be a [Diamond knot.](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diamond_knot)
