You go to Staples or another office supply store and order one. I think it cost me about $20 to have a self-inking one made.
Oh, yes. Assuming they offer options, always go with the self-inking. The dip-and-splat* ones are just too much hassle to use.
(*not their real name, I hope).
Find a lender who’ll do it with electronic signing. The last mortgage I did (two years ago), that was an option and we took it.
It was a little bit silly, too. At one point the lender’s agent turned the screen to me and said I had to click a button; that was the one thing she legally couldn’t do for me. Not that there’d have been any way for anyone to tell.
Maybe it’s not available in all states. I’m in NC. Anyway, next time, ask about it.
When we bought our house, they were pretty adamant that I had to sign my middle initial as well. I never use my middle initial. Ever. I don’t sign with it, I don’t include it in my signature, I never have and never will. It’s rather like my appendix - there, and hanging out generally causing me little fuss (it’s even kind of neat in an unobtrusive way), until it suddenly does.
So obnoxious. Sometimes I wonder if I could ever legally question those signatures since they’re really not my legal signature, what with the extraneous “M” and all. Pity the rest of it matches my signature so well.
