> [@Quondam\_Mechanic](#): > > Mister Mxyzptlk Absolutely true, I swear. “Mxyzptlk” is a typo. It was originally “Mxyzpltk”, but they messed up the spelling in an early issue, and decided to keep the altered version. It’s (the current spelling) supposedly pronounced “Mix-yes-pittle-ick” I’m reminded of Joe Btfsplk from Al Capp’s comic strip _Li’l Abner_ (who must be some Earthside cousin, or something). When someone asked Capp how it was pronounced, he immediately blew a raspberry, then said “How _else_ would you pronounce it?” ---

Aaron Sorkin had a weakness for odd character names, and not just one-shot characters, either. From the West Wing: Annabeth Schott (34 episodes) Percy Fitzwallace (22 episodes) Ainsely Hayes (12 episodes) Elsie Snuffin (8 episodes) Glenallen Walken (4 epsiodes) Sports Night only lasted two seasons, but Sorkin managed to work in Sally Sasser and Pixley Robinson. By the time he got to The Newsroom Sorkin had most given up on “distinctive” names but continued full on with alliteration, leading to MacKenzie McHale, Sloan Sabbith, Jenna Johnson, Leona Lansing, Lisa Lambert and probably a few I missed. ---
