Professor Unrat from the Heinrich Mann novel of the same name, the source for the movie “Der blaue Engel” (The Blue Angel), one of the most famous German movies with Emil Jannings as Unrat and Marlene Dietrich as Lola in her breakthrough role. “Unrat” is the polite word for “garbage” or “filth”. I also like Gregor Samsa, the protagonist from Franz Kafka’s “Die Verwandlung” (The Metamorphosis). It has a nice ring. ---
