I had a comic back in the '60s in which Superman died from kryptonite poisoning. Supergirl avenged his death by wreaking havoc on the forces of evil.

I suspect Superman has died and been resurrected a number of times.

Also giving a war criminals a planet is probably a violation of some law or other.

Harlan Ellison had a scathing essay about the Death of Superman that they played on Sci-Fi Buzz back at the time. It starts with Ellison showing multiple Superman comics with the cover splash of “Superman Dies!”
