Characters hiding under our noses...

My big one was Mark Pellegrino. I still have trouble believing that Jacob on Lost and Rita’s scuzzy ex on Dexter are played by the same guy.

And before that he was the dentist (Dr. Tim Whatley) in several episodes of Seinfeld. At one point, he converts to Judaism. Jerry thinks he converted just so he could tell Jewish jokes, prompting Kramer to brand Jerry an “anti-dentite.”

I recently rewatched Galaxy Quest. Monk I was expecting to see, but it freaked me out just a little when I learned that one of the chief aliens was Veronica Mars’s dad.

Speaking of Hot Fuzz, the evil Preacher guy was the same guy that played Belloq in Raiders of the Lost Ark. I hadn’t seen him in anything in between.

And another one is Dwight Schrute from The Office.

Jerry in a priest’s confusional:

Jerry: I think Dr. Whatley converted to Judiasm only for the jokes.
Priest: And that offends you as a Jew?
Jerry: No, it offends me as a comedian.

And Malcolm and the brothers’ babysitter on several episodes of Malcolm in the Middle.

That is so not a good look for Panetierre.

Holy crap! I’m a fan of both and never made the connection. Wow.

I only recently found out that that was Hayden Pannetiere. She SO does not look like herself in that role…

Incidentally, Pannetiere was also Lizzie on Guiding Light for a while, I think well before the Malcolm role (early 90s, I believe).

Thanks for that reference - I told my husband last night and his jaw nearly hit the floor. Normally he’s awesome at pointing out things like that, so whenever I can supply him with a connection he’s missed, he’s thrilled.

In the Newman-Woodward film “Mr. & Mrs. Bridge,” the older version of their son Douglas is played by Robert Sean Leonard.

It suddenly hit me a few days ago that Terry O’Quinn – John Locke from Lost – was Howard Hughes in the Rocketeer. I hadn’t really noticed the similarity before. I had to pull out my copy of Rocketeer and watch it again – yup! The same guy. iMDB verifies it.

Joseph Gannascoli who played Vito on the Sopranos (You know, the fat gay gangster) appeared in an earlier episode as a customer in a bakery that Chris chased out before he (Chris) shot the employee in the foot.

I don’t know if he’s in that exact same scene, but next time you watch, keep an eye out for rebel General Rieekan, played by Bruce Boa. If you’ve ever seen Fawlty Towers, he’s the loudmouthed American guest who arrives too late for dinner and tries to order a Waldorf Salad.

I’ve heard it said that comedy is much harder than drama; successful comedic actors can slip into a dramatic role if they want to, but not necessarily vice versa (dramatic actors into comedic roles).

Watched Rush Hour last night. (Shut up). The blond haired Asian evil henchman guy was none other than Miles from Lost.

On my third viewing today of Beauty and the Beast (Belle’s Magical World) I noticed that one of the characters is voiced by Kimmy Robertson.

He was also the weird guy on Six Feet Under, the one that was doing that nuzzling thing with Ruth.
I was reminding of that watching an old episode of the Office when Andy said that all him and Angela had done was some necking…not kissing, but rubbing their necks together, like they were nuzzling.

How about his stint as “Speedo Boy” in ZOS (Zone of Separation, a Canadian Mini Series about peacekeeping in the Balkans), he played this gun toting nutcase that wore a speedo and usually bandoliers and occasionally a coat, about as far from Keith Mars as you can get. From what I’ve heard the ‘Speedo Boy’ character was based on a real person…
