Alex Kingston (Dr. Corday) was on “E.R.” for a while before she started dating (and eventually married) Anthony Edwards (Dr. Green). For a while, it looked as if she was going to have an ongoing relationship with Eriq LaSalle. ---

In the last year of _Northern Exposure_, they hooked up Maggie and Chris. It seemed forced to me, like the writers decided that they had to put the beautiful people together. ---

Barney and Robin in How I Met Your Mother. I don’t know if that’s long run enough, though, but I’m pretty convinced that they will end up married, which is why they were always referred to as “Aunt Robin” and “Uncle Barney.” ---

Another opposite example - the main characters on Jonathan Creek. Right from the first they were foreshadowing romance. After three seasons they finally slept together, then unexectedly (to me) declared it a mistake. Maddy went so far as to say, “It was like. I dunno, making love to your favourite Uncle.” More on topic, what about the Red Dwarf episode where Lister dreams he’s kissing Rimmer? I certainly didn’t see that coming. ---
