# Charity appeal: in which you get to pay me to run away!

Hey, all. In February I will be running (okay, aggressively walking) the Miles for Hope 5k in February. I am running to honor my best friend’s mother, who passed away last year due to complications from a tumor.

She was a lovely, lovely person and the world is a sadder place without her.
The run raises money for brain tumor research and patient care. Good going… I see you continue to collect more donations. A schoolmate of mine was diagnosed with a brain tumor this last summer. He’s just now working his way through all that is involved.

Response has been pretty good. I did a 5k for the Susan Komen foundation a few years ago but I didn’t actually do any fundraising (though with a $125 fee just to run they did pretty well off me).

Our team is still in first place for fundraising, [but we still need your help](http://www.braintumorevents.org/faf/home/default.asp?ievent=1027710). The event goal is $110,000 and we’re more than $90,000 away. I’m nearly at $1,000, at which point I can take a well deserved nap. If anyone can [spare a buck](http://www.braintumorevents.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=1027710&supId=374738452), it would be greatly appreciated.
