Charlie Brown, Grinch, or Rudolph?

Absolutely! That Norelco Santa needs to be brought back!
Along with ads for Dolly Madison snack foods (I always felt vaguely guilty that I never ate those).

That’s great news about the Grinch reruns - but what’s CN? If you meant CNN, that’d be a welcome break :). I’ll look forward to the big-eyed kids marathon!

  1. Charlie Brown (Linus’ monologue is great)
  2. Grinch (Love the dog!)
  3. Mr. Magoo (but I never see it on TV anymore!)
  4. Emmet Otter’s Jugband Christmas (I can’t believe no one mentioned this yet!)

Rudolf? Meh. The first part is good, but they lost me with the Island of Misfit Toys.

There is simply no contest: *A Charlie Brown Christmas *is vastly superior to every other Christmas special ever made. I had not seen it for a while, then I watched it last year, and again this year. It is astounding how well it has held up over the years. The dialogue is still very funny, the story is wonderful, and Vince Guaraldi’s music is simply amazing. (The instrumental of “Christmas Time Is Here” may be the most beautiful piece of music ever recorded.) It’s the hands down winner.

YOWZA! The Mr. Magoo version of A Christmas Carol beats all three of the others by a country mile. I would so love to be able to score that on DVD.

CN=Cartoon Network

Not mentioned until now: Simpsons Roasting on a Open Fire. #1

Kaylasdad, I don’t know if VHS is good enough for you, but we managed to find a copy of Magoo on video last Christmas. Wasn’t easy though.

Did anyone find out where to get the Claymation Christmas special?

I saw the tail end of an ad last night. Santa on his razor making the new Norelco logo in the snow. So it seems he’s still on his little ride.

Mr Magoo’s Christmas Carol is available on DVD, it seems. A rental place I know has it in stock. Available at Amazon, as well. Please be kind to the gods at Classic Media, who give us nearsighted men, red-nosed reindeer, talking moose, Christian vegetables*, and so many other things. If only they would give more of their treasures to the public. They’ve bought a lot!

I think I’d have to call it a three-way tie, with A Christmas Story coming in fourth, followed by the other R-B specials.

Unfortunately, I don’t have cable, so I miss a lot of this stuff these days. Does anyone know when anything will be airing on network television, or will I have to watch them on the computer again this year?

What…not one person, besides me, voted Rudolph in the number one slot??

Come on now…it has adventure, reformations, love, murder, good guys, bad guys…all in one little hour of TV.

Perhaps we should rethink our lists…

I have never seen ‘Claymation Christmas’ after the first broadcast. But there’s three-in-one DVDs available on Amazon.com for around 20 bucks for new, and a few used ones for slightly less. It’s on my buy-it-for-myself-after-I-get-everyone-else’s-gift wish list.

Santa Clause is Coming to Town. I feel like watching it now.

Charlie Brown is first.
We watched Grinch the other night.
Rudolph takes a fall on the list.

It used to be the first movie we would watch every year is National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. It’s a Wonderful Life too.
