Darwin’s theory is not so much that evolution happens (that had already been proposed)- it is HOW evolution happens. There \*are \*many scientist that say that Darwin’s theory is flawed (in fact, most do). Punctuated Equilibrium is much more likely to be correct. Face it- the random gradual process proposed by Darwin simply could not have done much of the “heavy lifting” of species adaption. Newton was wrong also (Einstein showed that). But still- Newtons “Three laws” hold most of the time. Doesn’t stop either of them from being brilliant, ground-breaking and posting theories that others have simply built upon. ---

Really, it’s a pretty good rhetorical strategy, because it leaves the opposition sputtering and wonder how to begin… especially because one know that beginning anywhere other than “tell him, Chuck!” is just going to get you branded as one of dem, and you’ll be roundly ignored, branded as anti-God and unAmerican (religion and politics being quite entangled in the murky depts of the proud ign’rant southerner), and possibly beaten up by some drunken biker fans of the band. ---

I don’t know that Bono’s a good example, as he’s done more than just offer pronouncements - he appears to know what he’s talking about, and agree or not, he’s heavily involved in his various political fights. He’s got a bit more credibility than Barbra or whatever random 23 year old starlet is piping up this week to say, “War is, like, bad and stuff.” But yeah, I agree. It’s not offensive to me that famous people have political opinions - doesn’t _everyone_ have political opinions? Charlie Daniel’s got just as much right to talk politics as anyone else. His opinions may be stupid - they sure are in this instance, at least - but he’s got the right to have them and to espouse them. But then, people on your side of the aisle, **Mr. Moto** , seem just as likely as people on my side to complain when celebrities voice political opinions. I say let ‘em do it if they want to. The fact that I don’t like Charlie Daniel’s politics but do like the Dixie Chicks’ doesn’t mean I’m likely to buy albums by either. ---

Now as we all learned from Sam Kinnison and Andrew Dice Clay, gay men love fat, hairy, sweaty Neanderthals, so naturally one of them hits on Charlie, who, together with his friend, proceed to beat up the whole bar. The song ends with them getting arrested for speeding trying to get away from the evil gay people. So yeah, I’d say that Chuck’s been displaying warning signs for a while now. ---

**Mr Moto** It is one thing for a celebrity to voice an opinion but Charlie Daniels is just making statements that are totally wrong. If a liberal celebrity were to come out with something as ludicrous, yer darned tootin’ that person would be pitted by me. (Example: Liberal celebrity states that we all must work together to save the passenger pigeon before it becomes extinct. Err liberal celebrity? … you’re a bit late on that one.) * * * Charlie still adheres to that thoroughly beaten dead horse that evolution is “just” a theory. Then again, Special Relativity is “just” a theory. I wonder what the folks of Hiroshima and Nagasaki thought about all that theoretical nonsense on August 6th and 9th in 1945. ---
