So how reliable is this governor as a source of information? On the one hand, I would expect him to be kept abreast of the findings of the investigation. On the other hand, I suspect that law enforcement (at all levels) and prominent Republicans might be analyzing the evidence in a biased way because they so badly want this not to be a right-wing assassin.
The parallels to the shooter in Butler, PA are intriguing. As I recall, we sort of dropped the investigation into that one’s motives.

So far in other news, I did see that relatives and others could not confirm the relationship.
It has to be noted that while transsexuals are showing a bit in gaming communities, that there is a lot of anti-gay and anti trans activity among those gaming groups (there are some that notice that many of those efforts are right wing astroturf). The paradoxical thing is that while LGBTQ people can be accepted, there are not many games or characters that allow or use LGBTQ characters.
To me this just sounds like the governor irresponsibly spreading rumors, specifically to spur persecution of minorities.
He’s a Republican leader of a red state so I’m not surprised.

Though, there’s also the dimension that these right-wing factions are always jealous of each other’s reach and influence. They may persuade themselves that it’s about ideological differences, but it’s mainly about protecting their slice of the right-wing dumb-o-sphere.
These communities are secretive, exclusionary, and obstreperous from top to bottom, and also largely anonymous. Their ability to resist categorization, definition, and investigation is one of their core values.
It’s all but assured that that the moment it was reported that Groyper memes were on the casings, they did a deep sanitization of all their digital assets. Robinson himself probably did a deep-cleaning of his own accounts before the shooting.
There will probably be breadcrumbs found here and there, it’s hard to eliminate every trace in this day and age. But whatever they find will probably be too meme-obfuscated to be of use to anyone. Don’t count on anyone ever surfacing any information that will illuminate his inner thoughts. These guys try very hard not to be known, even to each other, even to themselves.

I find this situation so sad. In particular the current situation for Robinson’s partner. The texts make it clear they had nothing to do with the killing of Kirk but being outed as LGBTQ in Utah can make life very difficult and dangerous. Especially in circumstances such as this.
I fear the MAGA asshats will make their life a living hell and possibly cause them harm. Which our idiot POTUS and minions will likely cheer.

I suspect the reason no one will identify the specific ideologies Robinson espoused is because (1) 22-year-olds tend to have incoherent politics and (2) assassins tend to have frustratingly incoherent politics and (3) most people would hear whatever ideology and think ‘well, that’s not left or right’ because accelerationists tend not to view the established ideologies of the left and the right as acceptable, and mostly just want to watch the world burn

The main bit of information the Governor mentioned that has been in dispute has been about Robinson’s relationship with his roommate. Today that was confirmed in court filings and in text messages that were released. As I already stated, I am deeply worried about their safety.

I didn’t agree with Kirk’s political views. But he had the right idea to reach out to younger people and engage in debates. Encourage the nation’s college students to get involved in politics and vote.
I know someone else that also engaged with younger people and encouraged them to participate in our government and vote.
That was Bobbie Kennedy; He was assassinated too.
I still remember the anger and sick feeling in the pit of my stomach on June 6, 1968. I had already felt it earlier on April 4, 1968 after the news of Martin Luther King’s murder.
That sick feeling came again on September 10, 2025. I strongly disagreed with Charlie Kirk’s political views. But I never wished him any harm.
Kirk and RFK held diametrically different views and politics. Both men recognized the future of the US is in our young voters.
Will humanity ever learn that murdering people they disagree with is never the answer?

I didn’t know much about Charlie Kirk before he died, and in learning more, I have seen him express some pretty objectionable views. Nevertheless, my impression from hearing people talk about him was very wrong.

Yes, this. More people should be doing this. Get out and talk to others. Listen to opposing viewpoints. Bring more people into your party and show them politics is not something disconnected from their lives.
