This thing be crum-ba-lin’ down around us, y’all. I know that some folks are probably already on their way, and to them I wish a safe trip and a fun time, but I think it might be best if we did, in fact, consider this time around to be at least a partial washout. How does May look for folks? ---

Y’all Charlotte Dopers (excluding the awesome **superbee** ) are _lame_. I did in fact make the 3.5 hour drive _in the rain, the whole way_. I met **superbee** and his cool-as-all-get-out wife but **nobody** else showed up. We waited almost an hour for y’all to show up before we ate, and I’m sure the hostess thought we were all pot heads by the end of the evening (since we kept inquiring about ‘Dopers’). Sorry, but I think that’s pretty poor form to cancel 1 hour before the event. ---

Well, at least my ire has been validated - that’s something I suppose. Some hints for the next Dope Fest (should you do one): **Make a reservation under the name Cecil Adams.** That way, people can politely inquire about their expected party without seeming like druggies. **Give good descriptions of yourself/what you will be wearing.** I asked one guy (who was standing by himself, looking lost) if he was waiting for “a group” (not wanting to mention ‘Dope’ again, lest Charlotte’s Finest arrest me for soliciting drugs). His eyes lit up & he said that yes, he was in fact waiting on a group. Then, thinking the coast was clear, I mention ‘Straight Dope’. 🙂 You should have seen his face. Be descriptive, people. ---

Those gorky little “Hello, My Name Is” nametags with one’s board name and, optionally, one’s preferred IRL form of address are advantageous, both for recognizing who’s in the party and for remembering that that knockout brunette is actually **RancidCat** and prefers to be called Kathy,once you do get together. ---
