Chasing Mummies: Oh Mighty Isis, History Channel has killed again

I DON’T HAVE TIME FOR THIS GO AWAY! Now I’m off to a book signing.

I read that with the staccato he speaks in. Ha!

I know this is kind of mean, but is it me or does Zoe sort of look like one of the mummies? I think it’s because she is a very thin girl, but also has a bit of a long face. The way her skin puckers around her mouth makes me think of a mummy.

kanye shrug

Actually no it doesnt … it is set up for tourism for most places except the chambers above main ceiling - it has steps up the outside, and it has handrails and cletes for the main passages that have slopes. Check theline of tourists waiting to get in at about the 2 minute mark. More idiot tourist tricks with the great pyramid.

I wonder how much income it kills to have to block off tourist traps for them to film this bullshit show …

Do you, perhaps, have an Indiana-er-Dr. Hawas Chapeau I might purchase?
(We named the dog Hawass!)

I agree THC is damn near hopeless these days, but IIRC they had another show about Egypt recently with a lot of stuff about the Step Pyramid. It was a good, old fashioned style documentary on the subject, and I was astonished to learn about the several miles of tunnels under the structure, built so long ago.

Imagine being a foreign visitor when the pyramid was new. You’ve almost certainly come from a country with a more primitive lifestyle. In many cases, you might have never seen a straight wall, a door, or a ceiling. You would probably have thought the Egyptians were gods who created mountains and caves.

Come to think of it, though, that might have been The National Geographic Channel.

From Zoë D’Amato’s History Channel bio:

"She grew up on a small family farm riding horses, swimming in rivers and camping in the wilderness. "

When I went into the woods, I remembered to look for landmarks, etc. so I could find my way back out. I think I’d do the same inside a pyramid out of habit.

Look at a map of the pyramid, it isnt that much - compared to the Ramesseum … a few passagways that in general are marked for tourists, with one section above the Kings chamber that is off limits, and one unfinished chamber under the Queens chamber.

If anything, do the classic D&D trick of always turning to the right hand passage on the way in, and the left hand passage on the way out …
