Cheap and enjoyable honeymoon ideas?

How about a nice hotel in the Boston area - sight see, and take some day cruises out and around the New England Area? Cheaper, still nice, and you can adjust the options to your budget. Not too far from DC, either, but not someplace you’re going to go to on any given weekend, either.

OMD, set up a PayPal account. You never know when some of the regulars might shoot a little honeymoon loot your way

Well I’d chip in a Jackson iffin he did, and I’ve only been the SDMB for a few weeks. Let that shame the “regulars” into ponying up some green!

I bet you could really build up a big wad to blow on your honeymoon this way! (Of Payola!)

Uh Oh… I should have spelled it out better.

I wasn’t suggesting all SDMB regulars contribute. OMD is a Thursday night regular in the SDMB poker tourney. These are the “regulars” I spoke of, and even some of them are not in a position to contribute (our buy in is $.60/week, we don’t play very high stakes).

I’m not sure OMD would want me out soliciting the general membership for honeymoon funds, but he sure as heck doesn’t seem to mind whipping up on the Poker Tourney regulars. We’d pay to get him out of the game for a week and give us a better chance!

Fair enough… But I think he’d do OK passing around the virtual hat. Don’t you put $5 in the envelope for the baby shower for that coworker you never talk to at the office? How much more, then, to give to someone who’s involved in a venue you enjoy reading and writing on?

And true love… You heard him! You could not ask for a more noble cause than that!

I could not and would not solicit Dopers for the money, even if it wasn’t (I assume) somehow in violation of the board’s TOS. Duke explained himself well.

But please, no talk of contribution.

And great contextual use of the board’s favorite movie’s quotes, robardin

Depending on what sorts of things you enjoy visiting, we’ve done a few cheap-ish trips that we’ve enjoyed.

We drove down to Chattanooga and went to the wonderful aquarium, incline railway, and other historic sites.

We drove down to Mammoth Cave and took the freaking long walking tour. 4+ hours, I think.

We drove to Cooperstown and saw the Hall of Fame (but we didn’t stay in Cooperstown, which is lovely).

We flew to Las Vegas and stayed at the Hilton (business trip that I sneaked my husband on. Is it sneaking if everyone knew and okayed it? Oh well) but would stay downtown at the Nugget if we did it again. Las Vegas can actually be a pretty cheap place to visit, depending on one’s gambling habits.

And we honeymooned in DC over Christmas and it was wonderful.

There’s a big tourist attraction near me, the Hocking Hills, where there are tons of little cabins in the woods, some with hot tubs and spectacular views and fireplaces. Some of them do neat things like have chefs available to come to your cabin and cook you dinner. That sounds divine to me.

Congrats.
