# Cheating Wife Sends Fake Burgler to Scare Husband, Who Cuts Burgler's Throat

Link doesn’t work: [Derek Bentley case](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derek_Bentley).

But from reading the article, that doesn’t look like felony murder, but a case of accessory; the allegation was that Bentley directed the shooter to shoot (“Let him have it”) If that were so, they were joint parties to the murder, which is different from felony murder.

I am admittedly no lawyer, but I thought proximate cause was a tort issue. Would that apply in a criminal matter?

That’s why I said “proximate-cause-like.” I’m not an expert in criminal law, but even in criminal law, there must be some concept of proximity between the act of the defendant and any alleged harm.
