I, too, am one who likes the original. It’s a fun party song. I normally find serious acoustic covers to be a dime-a-dozen and not terribly interesting, but this guy really hits it out of the park. Guy’s got soul and to turn a disposable pop hit into something with feeling without overdoing it and making it a straight-up parody is impressive. ---

Is it illegal to rip the audio from his videos as mp3’s? He put them on youtube as public files, so I guess I figured he wouldn’t mind. I have not done so yet, though. ---

It is a violation of copyright unless he has released the video under a creative commons license that allows for such things. I’m a little vague on how YouTube works from the content-provider end of things, but I believe people who upload videos receive a cut of the ad money. Unless your video goes viral there’s so little ad money that this cut amounts to nothing, but this guy’s now had over 4 million hits to his “Sexy and I Know It” video so he’s probably making something off of it. Anyway, if someone wants to hear the song again and replays the YouTube video, Noah will get another fraction of a cent. If someone rips the audio and replays that, he’ll get nothing. ---

Because it would state that on the video description. Lots of record companies post official music videos on YouTube, but that doesn’t mean it’s a-ok to rip the song. ---
