There are definitely Jewish religious and community centers in the area. I don’t think there are any on that street, but if the Sufis didn’t want to be near anything Jew-ey they wouldn’t be there in the first place. ---

There’s already a restaurant/bar right next door to 51 Park – The Dakota Roadhouse at 43 Park. I don’t know if they serve BBQ though. The neighborhood is already a crowded jumble of businesses, some that might seem bizarre to find next door to a church or temple in a less-dense community. ---

[According to this,](http://pandagon.net/index.php/site/comments/how_to_not_look_like_a_total_moron/), Yelp lists three gay bars within a tenth of a mile of the Cordoba House site. So they’re not being nearly as cheeky as they think they are. That said, by favorite proposed names for the bar were The Ba’ath House, Suspicious Package, and Jihard. ---

When people complain about something of any certain persuasion (Muslim, strip club, Baptist, peep show, gay club…) being built in proximity to something in NYC, I wonder if they have ever actually _been_ to NYC. ---
