The entire French military legacy since Napoleon is an unmitigated joke. It’s their bed, they have to lie in it. Is it ok if I call you a “Yankee Imperialist Scum”? Would you call Clairboscur a “Cheese eating Surrender Monkey” to her face? How about calling Arnold Winkelried a “Paranoid chocolate humping watch fondler” to his face? There are a lot of jerks in this thread, because the OP raised a point about stereotyping and bigotry, and people instead of addressing the issue go straight into doing exactly what she was complaining about? Its not the words, its the implication thats the problem. ---

Aside from anything else, there is a difference between namecalling between friends and the blanket labelling of 60 million people that you don’t know and that don’t know you. The latter might be less inclined to take it as good natured ribbing and more as… oh… unpleasant jingoistic xenophobia? Just for example, you understand. There’s an idea. Rather than “Yankee imperialist scum”, let’s call you “Unpleasant jingoistic xenophobes”.
