The reason I thought it was staged is that he’s an egomaniac and it doesn’t seem like he would participate in anything that makes him look bad. Maybe he really is slipping… ---

FWIW, I felt really uncomfortable watching that interview with Behar. The guy may be a shitheel, I don’t know\*, but it appears that his relationship is unraveling and Joy is practically slavering over it. That seems…well, icky. I understand that these people put their lives out there for everyone to see, but at some point doesn’t a compassionate person say, “Now we’re well into awkward and uncomfortable territory, let’s, uh, break for a commercial”? Even public people deserve a little privacy. Shannon is clearly angry and hurt, which is understandable, but she’s using the media to shame him and that just feels wrong to me. His public persona is his livelihood and I just can’t see that marital infidelity justifies destroying his livelihood. This is why I despise reality shows, especially celebrity ones. For goodness sakes, people, don’t squander what little privacy you have. - I don’t watch reality shows and it seems to me low self-esteem and self-destructive behavior is de rigueur in the entertainment industry. Not that it justifies it, but it’s hardly shockingly unique behavior. ---

I’m quite confused about this whole season… Gene is known to be an egomaniac, but he’s also VERY good at promotion. I just can’t imagine him permitting this new season of the show to go on making him look like such a heel unless there was a payoff for him. My wife and I watched the first episode last night and he didn’t look very good. Why would he permit them to keep filming and them put this on the air??? He has to have some say in all that… ---

I don’t know how long the clip goes but I watched the whole episode last night and she admits that the clip of the show pissed her off and decided she wanted to nail him to the wall on the subject of fidelity. ---

And during filming this issue apparently came up, and Shannon has decided she’s tired of his infidelity. I think she wants a change in her life, but like a lot of people is afraid that she can’t get the change she wants, and the alternative isn’t exactly pleasant. So he’s agreed to go and do publicity for his show, but the show hosts are taking the clips of the drama and tearing into him. So he really is stuck. He can refuse to do publicity, and probably jeopardize a contract, certainly hurt chances of filming more episodes. He can go on and try to be a good sport where the issue is how much a jerk he is. He truly looks uncomfortable. And Joy makes a good point - she states in her interview she wonders how much is true and how much is “reality show schtick”. Look, it’s the subject of the clips, and it’s provacative, so it’s what the hosts ask about. But it’s personal and painful for Shannon and I think probably for Gene as well. So the worst bit of their family drama is playing out in television interviews. Welcome to Reality TV. Every question keeps it right on the surface, and every evasion by Gene is like a personal evasion to Shannon. It’s like she feels his response to the hosts is his response to her. Yeah, it’s uncomfortable to watch. ---

Given how this is playing out, I am more inclined to imagine how this is being staged…given his shtick factor, it almost feels like a pro wrestling set up. He’s down! His gal is leaving him! Gene Simmons is a class-A jerk. He was unexcusably rude to Terry Gross. And if he’s been hurting Tweed for years then what can you say? But watching these clips just makes me sad both of them. Unless it’s all one big act, Tweed seems genuinely angry and hurt and Simmons seems sad and desperate. The way he said “No, this is really happening to us” in the Joy Behar interview just broke my heart, and I can’t stand the douchebag. ---

Gah! I just looked up the Terry Gross interview after Acsenray mentioned it. I got 12 minutes through it before I had to click away. Not only is Simmons unbelievably rude, but he broke his cardinal sin - he’s _boring_. About the time I stopped, Gross had just given up (or Gene wouldn’t be interrupted). He was in the middle of his “I’m God’s gift to women” spiel, and I realized that he was just droning on and on. Anyone who could delude themselves into thinking that they could be in a committed monogamous relationship with this man is a moron of the _highest_ order. My God, what the fuck did Shannon expect? Politicians sleep around? It doesn’t surprise me, but I can at least understand the public’s indignation. _Gene Simmons_ sleeping around? Getting upset over that is like buying a pet elephant and then complaining that it takes up space. I will never, never, never, _never,_ _ **never,** _ _ **NEVER** _ understand why women enter into relationships with guys who openly, proudly, have been profligate womanizers, and then think that _they_ are _the one_ who is _so special_ that they will finally “tame him” and he’ll “settle down” and love only her for the rest of his life. The guy just oozes doucheiness and she seems genuinely pissed…but I still see there being a definite tie-in to the show or something…“Gene goes to rehab for sex addiction to save the relationship” or something. Hard to say… Life/art, art/life, who the heck knows anymore? ---
