Checked but couldn’t find a thread on [this](http://www.usnews.com/blogs/planning-to-retire/2009/01/20/cheney-in-wheelchair-for-inauguration-ceremony.html). I waited to watch the inauguration, then checked again. Personally, I believe that this 69-year-old multimillionaire executive-cum-cardiac patient/vice-president hasn’t been packing and moving his own stuff for a long, long time now. Which leads me to the conclusion, based on the fact that the man _is_ an established fucking creep, that this story is a planted lie designed to excuse said creep from standing up for the President of the United States, giving the final lie to the notion that he had any respect for the office in the first place. Your thoughts? In the case of Cheney supporters, I’ll accept almost-thoughts. ---

I think that it makes Cheney look like a petty, spiteful child. He looks like a sore loser. And frankly, I’m kind of happy that he’s trying to pull such a stunt, it makes him look even worse. However, it’s possible that he has been packing up a few cherished possessions. I very much doubt that he’s been doing heavy lifting, though. ---

When I saw the pictures, the first thought that came to mind was: I wonder if that chair was Cheney’s secret project in the basement, like Clooney’s character in _Burn After Reading._ Maybe that explains the uncharacteristically goofy grin on his face. Then, with that image in my brain, I had an aneurysm and died. ---

My personal opinion is that, once he found out that he wasn’t going to get that blanket pardon he thought he was entitled to, looking like a crippled weakling might stave off calls for further investigations into his misdeeds. ---

Og knows I have essentially zero sympathy for Cheney and wouldn’t put it past him to stoop to almost any level of petty nastiness or churlishness, but to be honest, my first thought on learning about this situation was “Oh, the poor old man, that’s too bad.” Pick on the physically fragile poor old man for all the stuff he richly deserves to be picked on for, not for this. If it helps, you can consider how galling it must have been for him to appear in public on his last day in office looking like a Franklin D. Roosevelt impersonator. 😃 ---

As much as I dislike Cheney, I think this is ridiculous. Not to say I wasn’t hoping someone would dump him off the balcony, but I still think he was legitimately in that chair. ---
