Chesebro,Powell and Others in Trump's Orbit

I wonder if we could get Rudy to jump off a bridge, just to see who’d follow.

Shouldn’t be too hard. Just have a scantily clad 18 year old jump off with a bottle of gin. Rudy will be sure to follow.

I am NOT rewriting that poem.

Very much agree.

Envoi.

I am not a lawyer. My formal legal training consists of one quarter where I took Business Law in college. But even I know that the stuff they were doing was illegal. Surely a trained legal professional should know better than me.

I think that the only plausible ignorance she can claim is that she thought they’d get away with it.

Slightly off-topic, but I wonder what the frankest guilty plea would look like.

“Your Honor, I knew exactly what I was doing, and how illegal it was, but I was motivated by self-interest that overrode my good sense, I thought that if I was helpful in getting Donald Trump another term, however unearned it was, he would reward me materially with all sorts of career-advancements and I decided to roll the dice on his serving that second term.”

In some senses, I don’t see where this would do her any harm, and a judge might look upon it as a refreshingly honest statement.

My prediction: All the defendants from Georgia will soon flip. Out of the initial 19, only about 5 will ever go to trial.

A lot of them certainly will but as time goes on, the deals will get shittier for them. When the deals stop happening, we’ll know that they have enough to for Trump to be well and truly fucked.

Ellis crowdsourced $213k for her legal defense before taking the plea. lmao

I can understand their anger. I’ll still feel some schadenfreude, but I understand.

So she’s returning the $213k right?

Maybe she’ll donate it to the Brennan Centre:

Moderating:

This thread has gone far afield from what the OP proposed to discuss. I’m locking the thread for now until I can hear from the OP – who, like me, apparently has had a busy morning keeping him away from the board – to see if he is agreeable to broadening the original topic he wished to discuss.

After speaking with @enipla, he has agreed to slightly broaden the scope of this thread to include discussion of others in Trump’s orbit. The thread is reopened and retitled, but please be mindful to keep discussion within these boundaries.

Since the subject has been broadened…….

I fully expect Mark Meadows to be next. It seems inevitable, I don’t see how he can simultaneously live the lie in GA and tell the truth in DC.

I really hope the GA prosecutors insist on at least some jail time but I’m not sure they will. Mark probably has quite a bit of useful information, but the prosecutors have leverage, too. They know that, with his DC agreement, he has no defense left.
