This reminds me of an episode of the old Star Trek, in which Kirk gets the Enterprise out of a sticky situation, by taking over from Mr. Spock, whose strategic paradigm had been chess, and replacing it with poker, ie using a bluff. Poker strikes me as a better metaphor for what’s going on in the Middle East. Not everyone’s pieces are above the board and visible.
