Chess robot breaks seven-year-old boy's finger during chess tournament

That kid knows what they did.

Depends on the robot. We put in a robotic palletizer at one of my former employers, and it had built-in sensors in the joint motors that detected when it was hitting an obstacle (people, conveyors, etc.). It was sensitive enough to stop without hurting a person at all. The container size was programmed into the robot, so if the “hand” tried to pick up something outside of those dimensions, it would let go, home, and throw an alarm.

Damned operators would mess with the robot just so they could get extra breaks, as it took 10-20 minutes to reset the robot and get it running again.

Funny that when you use robots in industry there are all kinds of safety regulations required. Two hand safety touch (robot won’t move unless your hands are on two sensors away from the robot), light curtains (break an invisible plane with an object or body part and the robot stops), e-stop (big red emergency button to stop the robot) etc.
This looked to have none of that and also used a pretty heavy duty robot. Not too bright of the designers.

It is in Russia. Be suprised that it isn’t made of rusty barbed wire and powered by a drunk, rabid stoat.

Was this an Italian robot?

And then it did say: Free Ukraine!!! (the captured parts).

Chess would be more popular if they had more finger breaking, just saying.

Nobody has heard the robot’s side of the story. Maybe the kid’s finger brushed another piece illegally and some “tough love” ensued. :smiling_imp:

This?

It was very similar indeed - as I’m in the UK, perhaps there was a model for that market!

What is the standard notation for Robot breaks finger? It looked to me like Rt BF d1!!

Hm. And we just watched The Mitchells vs. The Machines this weekend.

It looks like the kid didn’t wait long enough between moves. Its normal to get excited by a move and reach quickly.

The robots programming should have easily compensated.

It might be cute to have a chess playing robot pull “got your nose” if playing a kid.

Putin has allied with the Terminators!
Telegraph Captain Midnight and his Secret Squadron, immediately.

I’m pretty sure they’re not putting Russian chess-playing software in cars.

Looking at the video it appears that the robot arm didn’t move after it got a grip on the kid’s finger. This suggests that the break may have been due to a ridiculously firm grip on the part of the robot. Who the fuck programs a chess-playing robot to grip the pieces with bone-crushing force?

In this version of “got your nose”, is the trick to fool the kid into thinking his severed thumb is actually his severed nose? Cute!

Not if the move is Nose to Rook 3.

(Yes, it was done on purpose, they call it an Amokfahrt or an amok drive in German, and the perpetrator is psychiatric custody now. And the driver was from a former Soviet Republic, go figure. People died, I’m not really laughing: Me and my wife passed by that corner the day before. But still, it could count as some kind of Russian driving sofware, and maybe the driver knows how to play chess…)

No, you cannot castle the Nose and the Thumb after the Thumb is severed, look up the rules!
